I made a pact to paint for an hour everyday for what will become a 365 watercolor project of sorts. If you’re at all curious about my progress, please visit my dedicated 365 blog here! I’m going to kick off the year with an “in-parts” theme where I will draw deconstructed common objects (i.e. beverages, condiments, snacks, cosmetics, etc.).
I’ve been on the look-out for wholesome body products and cosmetics, and I’ve slowly replaced my shampoo, body soap, and facial lotions with products made with non-mysterious, organic ingredients. Rosebud Salve, my old favorite, has petroleum — not good! So, I was really happy to find these lip balms by Dr. Bronner’s. They’re made with avocado oil, beeswax, jojoba oil, hemp seed oil, and tocopherols (vitamin e). Goodbye, Smith’s Rosebud Salve and hello Dr. Bronner’s!
I drew these lip balms with gouache today — half of the lot with a Koi waterbrush and the other half with a DaVinci Maestro sable brush. I like the results, even if it meant painting with unpredictable variables like water gushing from my waterbrush (#1,3,5) and the ever soft bristles of my sable brush which was kinda like drawing with a soggy mop (#2,4).
